Dear Arbor Station Community,

I think everyone knows that my personal and professional mission is to save all children.

I had to write a paper in grad school, “Why do you want to be a school administrator?” I wrote that I became a teacher because my mission was to save all children. In my 30’s, I came to a realization that I was not going to live long enough to save all the children with only 25 students in my classroom each year. As an assistant principal and principal, I have the opportunity to save 650 students each year. So, when I saw an opportunity to save 5,000 students each year it intrigued me.

Several months ago, a position was posted, AVID district coordinator. I will be working with all elementary schools to roll out this powerful instructional infrastructure. The more I learn about AVID, I firmly believe it will have a huge positive impact on instruction for all our children.

It has been more than a privilege to serve this community for the past 16 years. You and your children are and will always be family to me. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with your family.

Love you much,
Your PrinciPAL…Melissa Joe

Hello,

I am Dr. Emily Felton. I am honored and excited to be the new Principal of Arbor Station Elementary School.  My passion for education and supporting the success of all students has shaped me over the past 24 years.  I welcome the opportunity to serve the Arbor Station learning community and look forward to working with a dynamic staff, dedicated parents and an involved community. Most of all, I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work at Arbor Station.

I am originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, I earned my bachelor degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, a master’s degree from Fort Valley State University, a specialist degree from Columbus State University and a doctorate degree from Georgia Southern University. I have been fortunate to serve as Principal of Sweetwater Elementary School for the past 4 years. Where because of great teachers, eager students, and involved parents, our CCRPI scores increased each year.  Prior to Sweetwater, I was the assistant principal and counselor at Factory Shoals Middle School, counselor at Chapel Hill Middle School, Clifton Ridge Middle and Jones County High School in Gray, GA.

With energy, compassion, enthusiasm, and willingness to relate and understand others, I am driven to help our students become the absolute best they can be and will work tirelessly to that end.

Thank you for your continued support in our mutual goals in raising competent, healthy, and successful children.

For the children,
Dr. Emily Felton
